I established LLLGI to support local, national and international developments in lifelong learning.

Aims

The main aim of LLLGI is to support people and organisations working to develop lifelong learning policies and programmes. I offer advice, practical guidance and opportunities to reflect on how to strengthen and expand their work. This often includes helping to position initiatives within wider education systems — including formal schooling, alternative learning programmes and the pathways that connect them — and linking national efforts to broader international development priorities.

My work is global in scope, but I often focus on Africa and Asia, where the pace of change creates both significant opportunities and challenges for education systems. Supporting the development of more flexible and inclusive approaches is particularly important in these contexts, where diverse learning needs and experiences call for greater coordination and innovation.

Main activities

Mapping and contextualising

  • Raising awareness of global issues affecting the provision of lifelong learning

  • Mapping learning programmes, policies and pathways across and beyond education systems

  • Interpreting the latest initiatives of international organisations and development agencies according to each unique context

  • Collecting examples of effective and relevant LLL policies as ‘best practices’ around the world

Capacity-building and policy-making

  • Building capacities in LLL, helping education stakeholders, employers and community organisations to identify where learning interventions can be more flexible and better coordinated

  • Supporting governments and organisations to draft lifelong learning policies and organise consultations and dialogues to advance these policies

  • Guiding the design and improvement of context-specific strategies involving multi-stakeholder collaboration for the promotion of lifelong learning

Showcasing and aligning

  • Bringing visibility to inspiring initiatives already being implemented on the ground or led at the policy level by LLL champions

  • Articulating these efforts in order to achieve international recognition, identify new and relevant opportunities and aligning with current education agendas

  • Connecting policy-makers and practitioners with across different contexts for peer learning and stronger international cooperation
